Concerned Persons Group
Concerned Persons Group provides a forum for teens to develop and strengthen skills to effectively cope with
concerns and challenges in their lives. The goal of the program is the development of age appropriate life
skills which act as protective factors to delay the onset of substance use and other high risk behaviors.
Concerned Persons Group provides a setting in which healthy beliefs can be reinforced while students can safely
and openly learn about and discuss issues concerning substance use or other risky behaviors.
Groups are designed to be gender–specific and run for an entire year with groups meeting once a week, for
one class period. During the 2004-2005 school year, 65 students in grades 6 through 10 participated, 65% male
and 35% female.
Based on leader evaluations, all participants improved in each of the areas taught in the program.
Student participants also rated themselves on specific skills. Managing moods was rated lowest, while the
ability to control drug use was the highest rated.
